GC Item Title: | Mint Error 2001-D Lincoln Cent Muled with Dime Reverse Die "The Eleven Cent Coin" PCGS MS-65 RD | Certification Number: | 43726720 |
Description: | Spectacular mule error showing a 2001-D Lincoln Cent, while the reverse is a Roosevelt Dime. Both are of similar size, so it is possible that the dies were mixed up - and whoever was meant to verify the die design simply overlooked perhaps the most important responsibility of their job. It has been reported that just four of this major error have been discovered, all from the same sets of dies. It is a very similar error to the Sacagawea Mule (a Sacagawea Dollar with Reverse Quarter), which is widely considered the #1 U.S. error coin (GreatCollections auctioned one of the 20 known examples of the Sacagawea Mule for a record price last year). The present coin - 2001-D Cent with a Dime - is even more striking in appearance when you look at the copper color and Dime design. |
