GC Item Title: | Exceedingly Rare S.S. Central America Shipwreck Henry Hentsch Gold Ingot/Bar 67.91 Oz. ($1250.80) | Certification Number: | n/a |
Description: | While there were several different makers of gold ingots recovered in the S.S. Central America shipwreck, the rarest of all are those produced by the Swiss-born banker and assayer Henry Hentsch. In fact, before this present ingot was discovered in the shipwreck (and just 32 others), no known examples were known to exist from Hentsch, not even in museums. Stamped on the bar: No 3095 / 891 FINE / HY. HENTSCH / OZ 67.91 / $1250.80 Also stamped on the reverse of bar in a different font: 3095 Very rare, and highly desirable. Listed on page 272 in the reference "A California Gold Rush History" by Q. David Bowers. |
