Trade Silver Dollars
About Trade Silver Dollars: Trade Dollars, first minted for use in Asia in 1873, were heavier than the standard US Silver Dollar, to compete with Spanish and Mexican Dollars. Trade Dollars lost their legal tender status in 1876, when the coin's face value exceeded the value of silver, and in 1878, business strike production was stopped. Proofs continued to be struck until 1885.
