Indian Gold Quarter Eagles
About Indian Gold Quarter Eagles: Bela Lyon Pratt, a former student of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, was called in to create a new design for the Quarter Eagle. His creation was not only beautiful but unique for United States' coinage--it was the first incuse design, where the devices and legends were in sunken relief below the surface of the coin. Unfortunately, the design was met with skepticism by the public, as many thought the recessed design would collect dirt and therefore harbor disease-carrying germs. The Indian Quarter Eagle was minted from 1908 to 1929.
