GreatCollections will be at the ANA...

Ian Russell on Thu, Aug 11, 2011 7:31:26 PM
There is no way we are missing the ANA show in Chicago, which starts next week.  It's routinely the most important coin show of the year, probably followed by FUN and then March Baltimore.

Our table is 1316, so if you are attending the show, please stop by and say hello.  We'll be accepting consignments, showing highlights from the Anacapa Collection and other properties being sold over the next few weeks.

The Anacapa Collection is already creating a buzz - with over $100,000 in bids placed in the first 12 hours of the coins being listed on our site.  Despite the bids already placed, there is still a lot of opportunity with these coins - most have been off the market for the past ten years, so it might be another ten before they show up again.

I can't add anything to our website anymore without mentioning the gold market.  Of course, everyone knows that it's up significantly from just a few weeks ago, and there is definitely an increase in demand.  In my opinion, gold is here to stay, and even though there will be bumps in the road (ie. volatility), we anticipate even more demand for gold coins in upcoming months.

Finally, pre-1933 gold has started to move in price.  Pre-1933 gold, like Saint Gaudens Double Eagles and Liberty Double Eagles have been dirt cheap of late... and finally the market is realizing that by owning Double Eagles, it has the best of both worlds... some numismatic exposure, as well as the intrinsic value.

We're continuing to work through the consignments that arrived this week - this afternoon in particular, we were working a nice Morgan Dollar collection that will upload next week.

While I will be at the ANA all week, it is business as usual in the office, so please continue to send in consignments and if you have any questions, please give us a call at 1.800.44.COINS.

All the best,

- Ian
