Sunset Collection, Steve's Excellent Registry Sets, Key Dates, 1861 Seated PCGS Proof-66 CAC...

Welcome to this week's Top Ten List from GreatCollections, featuring coins in our third auction of December - with bidding to end on Sunday, December 18th.

This is the fourth week of Steve's Excellent Collection of Certified Coins - it includes registry sets of many categories (over 1,000 certified coins in all).  In our auctions this week:  Jefferson Nickels, Mercury Dimes, Washington Quarters and some of his extra coins not included in the core sets.

Other collections include part 200 of the famed Sunset Collection, the Collier Collection of Shipwreck Coins and the Lake Forest Collection of Soft Pack GSA Dollars.  For individual highlights, there are many.  Please allow extra time to browse our auctions this week.

Steve's Excellent Collection also includes Mexican coins, which is being offered over several weeks including this Sunday.  Also Steve's Excellent Collection of Canada, Russia and Great Britain.

And although these ten auctions might be perfect for what you're looking for, please be aware that this is only a tiny percentage of the whole auction.  Each week, GreatCollections auctions over 4,000 certified coins and banknotes!  So, if you don't see anything of interest below, be sure to browse our categories or view all upcoming auctions.

Happy collecting!

- Ian

Number 10:

Pattern 1879 10c J-1584 NGC Proof-66 CAC (Toned)

A scarce pattern, Judd-1584, graded NGC Proof-66 with CAC approval.

Sold for $13,068.00  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (12 Bids)

Number 9:

1850 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar PCGS MS-63 CAC (Toned)

Seated Dollars are much harder to find, especially with CAC approval. Evenly toned, pleasing.

Sold for $14,062.50  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (37 Bids)

Number 8:

1926-S Buffalo Nickel PCGS MS-64 CAC (Toned)

The 1926-S Buffalo is always considered a key date - this superb example is graded PCGS MS-64 with CAC approval.

Sold for $15,468.75  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (32 Bids)

Number 7:

Czechoslovakia 1929 10 Dukatu Gold KM-14 Fr-4 NGC Unc Details (AGW = 1.1063 Oz.)

We were surprised NGC graded this coin as cleaned, considering it was purchased from a major Los Angeles coin dealer in the early 1980s and was consigned to GreatCollections raw with 100s of other gold coins of the World. Back in the 1980s, this was a relatively cheap coin (the late buyer paid melt + 5% for it, retail). Fast forward to 2022, and all Czech gold coins of the era are extremely popular.

Sold for $10,800.00  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (57 Bids)

Number 6:

1865-S Liberty Gold Eagle 865/Inverted 186 PCGS AU-50

Issued during the Civil War, this overdate is technically known as 865 over inverted 186. Graded PCGS AU-50.

Sold for $18,112.50  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (13 Bids)

Number 5:

1944 Lincoln Cent Struck on Steel Cent Planchet PCGS Genuine AU Details

A few weeks ago, we sold a 1943 Copper/Bronze Cent. This is the counterpart, the 1944 Struck in Steel. Although the coin has some corrosion noted, PCGS graded the rare error AU Details.

Sold for $20,818.12  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (21 Bids)

Number 4:

1898 Morgan Silver Dollar NGC Proof-68 CAC (Toned)

What a Proof Morgan! Very attractively toned, this 1898 Morgan Dollar was graded a while ago at NGC - graded NGC Proof-68 CAC.

Sold for $23,124.38  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (20 Bids)

Number 3:

1936-S Walking Liberty Half Dollar PCGS MS-67 CAC

Very few 1936-S Walkers exist this nice - graded PCGS MS-67 with CAC approval. A nice white example.

Sold for $17,437.50  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (42 Bids)

Number 2:

1916-D Mercury Dime PCGS MS-64 FB OGH CAC (Toned)

From Steve's Excellent Collection of U.S. coins, this key date 1916-D Dime still resides in an old green holder, graded PCGS MS-64 Full Bands with CAC approval.

Sold for $29,390.62  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (21 Bids)

And Number 1:

1861 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar PCGS Proof-66 CAC (Toned)

One of the finest 1861 Seated Dollars known, attractively toned and graded PCGS Proof-66 with CAC approval.

Sold for $28,125.00  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (48 Bids)
