This Week's GC Top Ten List - Bidding Ends Sunday, February 26th, 2023

PNW Collection of Gold Eagles Part 2, Ultra Rarities 1875 Proof $3, 1854-O $20

Welcome to this week's Top Ten List from GreatCollections, for our Sunday, February 26th coin & paper money auctions - our fourth Sunday of auctions this month.

One of the many highlights this week is the first part of the PNW Collection of Gold Eagles.  The multi-million dollar collection is being sold over four weeks - and includes over 170 different date/mint mark combinations.  All are being sold unreserved.

In ultra rarities, we have a couple of significant highlights - a rare 1875 Proof $3 Gold - graded PCGS Proof-64 CAMEO, as well as a high grade 1854-O $20 Liberty, graded PCGS AU-53.

An amazing 1922 No D Lincoln Cent is being offered from the Stewart Blay collection - this was a duplicate from his core set - and the quality is quite amazing.  It's considered one of the finest of the issue known - graded PCGS MS-65 RB with CAC approval.

One of the several collections we are auctioning includes the DS Collection of Half Dimes.

And although these ten auctions might be perfect for what you're looking for, please be aware that this is only a tiny percentage of the whole auction.  Each week, GreatCollections auctions over 4,000 certified coins and banknotes!  So, if you don't see anything of interest below, be sure to browse our categories or view all upcoming auctions.

Happy Collecting!

- Ian

Number 10:

1853-O Seated Liberty Half Dime No Arrows PCGS XF-45 CAC (Toned)

We could have used the whole Top Ten List this week to display highlights from the PNW Collection of Gold Eagles. This 1871-CC in high grade is just one of the highlights in the collection. High grade examples of this date minted in Carson City are rarely offered on the market.

Sold for $4,844.25  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (15 Bids)

Number 9:

1802 Draped Bust Dime PCGS MS-60 (Toned)

Lincoln Cents are very popular at the moment, after the Stewart Blay Collection was sold by our firm for a record $7.7 million. This 1940-S is tied with just a few others as the finest graded at PCGS as MS-68 RD.

Sold for $25,312.50  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (38 Bids)

Number 8:

1899 Indian Cent PCGS MS-67+ RD

Another highlight from the PNW Collection of Gold Eagles, this 1884-CC was formally from the Fairmont Collection - graded PCGS MS-61 with CAC approval.

Sold for $9,569.27  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (39 Bids)

Number 7:

Ancient Kingdom of Macedon, Philip II (359-336 B.C.) c.323-317 AV Stater (8.57gms) Abydus Mint NGC Ch AU Strike 5/5 Surface 4/5 Fine Style

One of the highlights from the Ancient category at GreatCollections - this Roman Tiberius Aureus is graded NGC AU Strike 5/5 and Surface 3/5.

Sold for $17,437.50  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (48 Bids)

Number 6:

1916 Standing Liberty Quarter PCGS MS-65 FH (Toned) (Garrett Collection)

The single finest graded by PCGS - MS-68 - with very attractive toning. Destined for the finest collection of Washington Quarters.

Sold for $32,757.75  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (45 Bids)

Number 5:

1870-CC Liberty Gold Eagle PCGS XF-45

This is a series I find dramatically under-appreciated and undervalued. An overdate, graded NGC MS-62 in an old fatty NGC holder with CAC approval.

Sold for $163,125.00  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (40 Bids)

Number 4:

1909-S Lincoln Cent V.D.B. PCGS MS-67 RD (Toned)

The famous Saint-Gaudens High Relief issue - numismatically a work of art, and rarely seen these days in such a high grade as this PCGS MS-66. Flashy, impressive.

Sold for $90,000.00  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (59 Bids)

Number 3:

1922-No D Lincoln Cent Strong Reverse PCGS MS-65 RB CAC OGH (Red Copper Collection)

The Bella and A&A Collection are both very well known to Saint-Gaudens collectors, and this 1912 dated Saint-Gaudens is from both collections. Graded PCGS MS-66.

Sold for $230,625.00  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (88 Bids)

Number 2:

1875 Three-Dollar Gold Piece PCGS Proof-64 CAMEO

The 1935 Peace Silver Dollar graded PCGS MS-67 is tied with just a few others as the finest graded, and this is surely one of the finest of the few graded this high at PCGS.

Sold for $258,759.00  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (62 Bids)

And Number 1:

1854-O Liberty Gold Double Eagle PCGS AU-53

And this 1938 Liberty Gold Eagle is graded PCGS AU-58 - and another highlight from the extensive PNW Collection of Gold Eagles - this is one of the most important collections of Gold Eagles ever to appear in auction.

Sold for $399,375.00  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (84 Bids)
