This Week's GC Top Ten List - Bidding Ends Sunday, March 31st, 2024

Rare 1861-S Paquet $20 Gold, Superb 1876 20c PCGS Proof-67 CAC, Proof Gold Quarter Eagles

Welcome to this week's Top Ten List from GreatCollections, for our Sunday, March 31st auctions.  For new members to GreatCollections, welcome, and our Top Ten List is a small selection of ten special highlights in our auctions this week.  They are not always the most valuable coins in our auctions, but each hand-selected for the reasons described below.

The top billing - the #1 coin below is the 1861-S Double Eagle, with Paquet Reverse - a major U.S. rarity - and this is graded NGC AU-53.

Collectors of Twenty-Cent Pieces will appreciate the 1876 we have in our auction this week - the PCGS Proof-67 with CAC approval has attractive toning.

In Proof Gold issues, we have three Matte Proof Quarter Eagles including a 1910, graded PCGS Proof-65+ with CAC approval.

And although these ten auctions might be perfect for what you're looking for, please be aware that this is only a tiny percentage of the whole auction.  Each week, GreatCollections auctions over 5,000 certified coins and banknotes!  So, if you don't see anything of interest below, be sure to browse our categories or view all upcoming auctions.

Happy collecting!

- Ian

Number 10:

1849 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar PCGS AU-58 (CAC Green) (Toned)

We love Seated Dollars with CAC approval, and this 1849 checks all the boxes. Despite the increase in this market over the past few years, we still think it's undervalued and under-appreciated.

Sold for $4,563.09  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (16 Bids)

Number 9:

Cook Islands 2017 Gold $200 Spider-Man: Homecoming With Stan Lee Signed COA in Case of Issue First Day of Issue NGC Proof-70 UC (AGW = 0.999 oz.) (Mercanti Signed Label)

RIP Stan Lee, co-creator of Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man, the Hulk, Doctor Strange and many other iconic comic book characters. This $200 Gold coin issued by the Cook Islands has a signed label by John Mercanti, but also a hand-signed Certificate of Authenticity by Stan Lee himself!

Sold for $3,768.75  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (27 Bids)

Number 8:

1936 Cincinnati Music Center Half Dollar PCGS MS-67+ (CAC Green) (Toned)

A superb example of the 1936 Cincinnati Silver Commemorative, graded PCGS MS-67+ with CAC approval. It is tied with just one other example as the finest graded.

Sold for $35,749.12  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (94 Bids)

Number 7:

1831 Capped Bust Quarter NGC MS-65 PL

A Gem Proof-Like Capped Bust Quarter, which is obviously very scarce with the Proof-Like designation.

Sold for $14,737.50  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (39 Bids)

Number 6:

1909 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle PCGS Proof-63 (CAC Green)

There are two Indian Gold Quarter Eagle Proofs on the Top Ten list this week, because we love both of them. This 1909 is graded PCGS Proof-63 with CAC approval.

Sold for $14,962.50  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (30 Bids)

Number 5:

1884 Morgan Silver Dollar PCGS MS-67+ (CAC Green)

A superb and white 1884 Morgan Silver Dollar, minted in Philadelphia and graded PCGS MS-67+ with CAC approval.

Sold for $12,937.50  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (42 Bids)

Number 4:

Mint Error 2009 Lincoln Cent Presidency 2-Coin Bonded Pair Die Cap and Multi-Strike Broadstruck PCGS MS-65 RD

Talk about a spectacular error!! Check out this 2-Coin Bonded Pair Die Cap and Multi-Strike Broadstruck and our GreatPhoto (click on the link).

Sold for $10,406.25  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (35 Bids)

Number 3:

1910 Indian Gold Quarter Eagle PCGS Proof-65+ (CAC Green)

This Gem Proof Indian Gold Quarter Eagle was minted in 1910 and graded PCGS Proof-65+ with CAC approval. The original surfaces are obvious.

Sold for $36,562.50  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (24 Bids)

Number 2:

1876 Twenty-Cent Piece PCGS Proof-67 (CAC Green) (Toned)

This coin is desirable to many different collectors. Collectors of Twenty-Cent Pieces in high grade, but also Type Collectors. PCGS Proof-67 20 Cent Pieces are very rare, I believe this is the only non-Cameo of this date graded 67 (and only one Cameo). CAC approved and attractively toned.

Sold for $55,687.50  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (58 Bids)

And Number 1:

1861-S Liberty Gold Double Eagle Paquet Reverse NGC AU-53

The Paquet Reverse $20 Gold Piece minted in San Francisco is considered a major U.S. rarity - we are proud to present this NGC AU-53 example in our auction on Sunday.

Sold for $98,448.75  (incl. Buyer's Fee)  (43 Bids)
